Artist's Statement
Reasons why I paint abstractions: 1)Because I like the challenge of painting what I "see" inside my head from that which I "see"outside my head. 2)Because it's never boring, 3) Because I like layers to life & layers to my art, 4)Because thinking of color, texture & form makes me smile,
5) Because someone viewing my artwork can connect with a familiar color or shape, & I like connections, 6)Because its primal, 7) Because I can paint abstractions with either hand or both hands at once, 8)Because I can tear up old abstract paintings & reconfigure them in to a new abstraction, and 9)Because it is one of the things I do best.
Artist's Bio
I have been an exhibiting artist for over 50 years. My artwork has been shown in various venues around the USA and is in private collections throughout the USA as well as Vienna Austria, Mallorca Spain and London England. It seems I have always been a painter. When I was a little girl, I was fortunate to take private art lessons from Sr. Stanisia at Academy of Our Lady and then classes at the Art Institute in Chicago. An arts degree from Florida State University followed by an MA in Art Therapy from Lindenwood College in St Louis rounded out my formal education.
Until I retired in 2010, I had a private practice as an Art Therapist, but always continued to paint. I paint because I cannot not paint. The creative process adds to the richness of my life. I think how luck I am to be an artist.
